Mrs. Alpha Retta Duncan, 84, died at 5:40 p.m. Tuesday, June 26, 1962, at the home of a daughter, Mrs. Alfred Harris, near Mellott, with whom she had made her home the past five years. Born June 25, 1878, near Mellott, she was a daughter of Elias and Margaret Smith Riley. She was married Sept 15, 1895, to David Wallace Duncan who preceded her in death in 1942. She was a member of the United Church of Christ, formerly the Congregational Christian Church of Mellott for the past 70 years. Surviving are a son, Harvey, of Mellott; two daughter, Mrs. Ada Trout of Claypool, Ind., and Mrs. Alfred Harris; a brother Irvin Riley of Mellott and two sisters,Mrs. Carrie Gott of Mellott and Mrs. Josephine akin of Hillsboro. She was preceded in death by her husband and a son. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at the Mellott United Church of Christ with the Rev. Don Cutts officiating. Burial will be in rose Hill Cemetery at Hillsboro. The body will be taken to the church an hour before services.
